The Alcohol Curve
I’ll be honest. I’m a fan of alcohol.
Honestly, I really like it all. I drink a couple times a week, usually while I’m making my family dinner. Over the years I’ve noticed something very interesting. There’s a point while I’m drinking a good Malbec where my brain starts coming up with amazing ideas. I start thinking of business ventures. I begin brainstorming ways I can help people. I dream of books I could write.
“There is a point while I’m drinking a good Malbec where my brain starts coming up with amazing ideas. I start thinking of business ventures. I begin brainstorming ways I can help people. I dream of books I could write.”
Alcohol opens up my mind to be able to think a bit more creatively.
The key here is moderation. A little alcohol stimulates the mind, a lot of alcohol destroys it and makes it almost impossible to do anything productive.
A glass or two = Creative Genius
Being drunk = Being Worthless
I call this the alcohol curve.
I’m no scientist, and I haven’t done any research to back my hypothesis, but I know alcohol in moderation can be a great tool for me to get things done. Having a glass while I cook has helped me come up with article topics, ideas for a new podcast episode, and even entire book plots.
If you have issues with drinking in moderation I would highly suggest steering clear of any alcohol consumption, but if you’re able to limit your intake you can use a glass of wine as a tool to help you create meaningful things.
Once the creative juices start flowing, make sure you don’t miss those ideas you come up with. Maybe it’s lyric to a song you want to record. Maybe it’s a character you think up for a story. Maybe it’s some charitable giving you want to do. Pull out your phone, or better yet your notebook, and write your ideas down. Even if you don’t follow through on your ideas immediately, keeping a log of what you think will prove fruitful down the road.
The moral of the story here is, alcohol can be a great thing when used in moderation to assist you in achieving and creating some very cool things. So go ahead, pour a drink and pop open your notebook. You might just be surprised with what you come up with.
Until next time,
